The Whisper Man by Alex North

Cover made by Will Staehle and Anne Twomey

The Whisper Man written by Alex North is a thrilling crime novel featuring the lives of a father and son, Tom and Jake Kennedy, who got more than they asked for when they moved to their new home. In the small town of Featherbank, a serial killer trademarked as “The Whisper Man” had murdered five victims twenty-years prior. Even though he was safely behind bars, the town no longer seemed safe as his old cases resurfaced along with the presence of a new one. Detectives Amanda Beck and Pete Willis are on the case, searching for the answers that may have been missed all those years ago. During the investigation, strange things begin happening at the Kennedy home.

The Whisper Man is a thrilling novel that keeps you on your toes. North does a great job of establishing the multiple perspectives that he writes in. Each character has their voice and respective back story, making the reader desire more. With North’s continuous change in perspective, I found myself eager to get to the next chapter. There were elements in this story that gave me goosebumps and others that brought me to tears. North’s writing is full of emotion and touches of humor which provide some brief comic relief during nail-biting scenes. This novel will touch anyone who has lost a loved one, especially those who have lost a parent or spouse. North’s contemporary investigative-tale and well-developed characters are encompassed by creepy details that leave your skin crawling. This distinctively scary and disturbing novel will remind you to lock the front door at night.

I give this story 4 stars. The story itself was great and it was definitely a page-turner. However, the constant change in perspective may become overwhelming for some readers. I myself found it to be a bit tedious at times. Although I understood the necessity for each perspective, I felt as if there were perhaps one too many. Overall, I would recommend reading The Whisper Man if you are looking for a thrilling novel to keep you on high alert as long as you don’t mind a constant change in perspective.

As always, thanks for reading! 💜
